What is the Energy Certificate?

The Energy Certificate service serves to qualify buildings based on their energy efficiency. An energy label will be obtained that indicates the housing’s consumption per square meter and year. In this way, the user can compare the energy performance of different homes. Since June 2013, it is mandatory to have the energy certificate to sell or rent homes or premises.

What does it consist of

To obtain the energy certificate, an architect or engineer must go to the building, home or premises to be certified to take data. Then, the technician writes the energy rating report using the official tools of the Ministry of Industry and Energy. Finally, this report is registered with the regional administration to issue the energy label and certificate. In our case we usually use the CE3X tool and enter the data by default, this means that depending on the date of creation of the house we will have certain thermal transmittance values of the envelope. If the client wanted to obtain aid for energy rehabilitation or carry out an energy rehabilitation project, it would be advisable to carry out an Energy Study.

In Catalonia, the report is registered with the Catalan Energy Institute (ICAEN), the body in charge of reviewing the file and awarding the energy label and the energy efficiency certificate. It can be applied for at any time and is valid for 10 years.
